Here are a few of the services we offer.
Children’s
Area – The Opp Library holds an extensive children’s collection
for both very young and juvenile readers alike. Board books, easy
reading, chapter books, videos, and children’s audiobooks are all
available in our children’s section.
Teen Zone – The library has a large collection dedicated to teen materials, all in its own private corner of the library. Besides popular series, such as Redwall, the Warriors, and the Hunger Games, we have an extensive collection of graphic novels and manga. Our teen zone also has its own nonfiction section, for students in need of help on a research paper.
Copies – Opp Public Library has a copier to copy whatever you need. Prices are .20-.50 per sheet for black and white text or .50-1.00 per sheet for color. The amount will depend on how much ink is used. Ask a librarian for exact amount. If you need a two-sided copy, the price is .25 per page for black and white.
Faxes – Opp Public Library can send and receive faxes. Price is 1.00 per sheet.
E-books – Through Baker & Taylor's Axis360, you can check out books from home on your Kindle or Kindle app, on an iPad or iPhone, or any other tablet or eReader. All you need is an Opp library account and an Internet connection.
To check out ebooks from Opp Public Library, go to http://opp.axis360.baker-taylor.com/, click on "Login" in the top right corner, and enter your library card number. Then, you'll be ready to check out books on your Kindle, iPad or whatever device you prefer!
Note that, due to technical issues, original Kindles are not able to check out books at this time. Don't worry, though; we're working to get this problem resolved!
Board
and Conference Rooms – The library has a conference room and a
community room that patrons can utilize for hosting non-profit events. If you
have a wedding shower to plan, our conference room will be perfect
for a small gathering. Or, if you are planning a meeting, our board
room is available for use with a conference table . These rooms can
be reserved throughout the week or on the weekend. Opp Library does charge a $25.00 deposit on the room that you must pay when you pick up the key for the room. That money will be refunded the next business day as long as the room is clean and orderly. You may visit our policies page for more info or call and speak to a librarian if you have any questions.
Magazines
and Newspapers – If you want to stay current on the local and
global news, then come by the library. We subscribe to local papers
from Opp and Andalusia as well as Dothan and Enterprize. Our magazine
collection is extensive, with everything from ESPN and People to Fine
Cooking and Southern Living.
Summer
Reading – Encouraging good reading habits in children is important.
It improves comprehension and learning ability, while providing an
inexhaustible joy. Every summer, the Opp Library hosts a reading
program for kids from kindergarten up. Each year the program features
a different theme, with books and crafts chosen to match. Two classes
are offered each day of the program: one for younger readers (grades
K-2) and one for the more advanced readers (grades 3rd through 5th).
Children can earn points for reading with cash and prizes awarded to
those readers with the most points.
