The Opp Public Library will be switching e-book platforms
soon. We are switching from our current system, Overdrive, to Baker &
Taylor’s Magic Wall. What this means for you is that, for a week or two at the
end of July and the beginning of August, we will be unable to lend ebooks.
Don’t worry. This switch won’t mean any big changes at the library
itself or for you, the patron. However, there are a few things that you need to
be aware of:
First, we are switching to an entirely different system. How
you sign in and check out books will change. We will be posting instructions on
using the new system once the switch is over, so learning how to get your
e-books will be simple and relatively painless.
Second, because this is a new system, we will NOT have
access to the old books on Overdrive. This will be an entirely new, smaller
collection, so the books you are used to seeing will (probably) no longer be
available.
Third, and this is the really good news, this platform is
not part of a consortium. That means that, unlike with Camilla Net, you won’t
have to wait forever for the latest book to be available for download. You
won’t be sharing those books with dozens of other libraries. All the books you
see on our e-book collection will be ours and only available to YOU. Only Opp
patrons can use them. So, no more month-long waits.
Keep an eye on the Opp Public Library website for the latest
information on this switch. And look for Baker & Taylor’s Magic Wall on the
website come August!
