As many of you already know, Opp Public Library has changed hands once again. Our previous director, Michael Mitchell, found himself a new job. We appreciate the work Michael has done during his time here & wish him the best of luck on all of his future endeavors. Courtney Smart has recently taken over at Opp Public Library. I'm the one writing this post! :) I've been working at the library for the past two years as the Children's Librarian. If you are a regular here at OPL, you most likely already know me. If you don't though, stop by & introduce yourself.
We are currently working on getting some new modern fiction & Christian fiction into the library. I'm also looking into getting something started with the homeschooled children around Opp. If any homeschool parent has any ideas, please let me know. We have received several new books in recently and put them on the shelf. I will make a list of the titles at the end of this post & if you're interested in any, come see us. If you see a title you've been wanting to read & can't get here, send me an email (opppubliclibrary@oppcatv.com) & I'll be glad to hold it for you.
One major change we have made is closing on Saturdays. Back in September, we did a trial run of opening on Saturdays to see how it would work. Unfortunately, it has not been as successful as we had hoped. Don't worry though-- we will open on Saturdays for books sales, events, classes, etc. I will give advance notice via radio & the local newspaper as to what dates we will open. We are currently back to our original business hours, which are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
I also want to remind everyone that we are open to suggestions. If there's a book that you want to read, let me know about it. I will gladly do my best to get it in the library. We work for our community & want to keep you guys happy & continuing to support your local library!
One last thing, we are always thankful for donations. Whether it be monetary or book contributions, we appreciate everything this wonderful community donates to us. If you have some old books lying around that you don't want/need anymore, bring them to us. We will gladly accept them.
I look forward to serving Opp Public Library & its patrons. If you have any questions, suggestions or ideas for the library, feel free to contact me at 334-493-6423.
